How to Reduce Shut Down Time: Windows 7 tweak

This is a tweak with which you can reduce the time taken by your machine to shut down.
Now, the time taken by a machine to shut down depends, to a certain extent, on how fast it can stop the running processes. That is why it takes more time when a process is 'hanged' or is not responding.
This tweak will show you how to adjust the "Wait to Kill"  time, the time Windows 7 waits for programs to save data and close before shutting down.
STEPS:
In the start menu, type 'Run' or simply press win+R to open the Run option .
Open the Registry Editor by entering 'regedit'.

Windows 7 Tips and Tricks : Remove Search Entries in Explorer

Removing unnecessary entries in the search bar.Windows remembers all the search terms entered in Explorer and offers these as selections while typing. With time this list can become too large and obtrusive. That is why you should delete this memory partially or completely.
There are two methods too remove this search entries. To remove individual entries, start typing the term in the search field, until it appears as a choice below it. Position the mouse pointer over it without clicking on the value and press the Delete key.
As this is tedious in case of many elements, you can completely delete the entries in the registry. For this, type ‘regedit’ in the search field of the start menu and press the Enter key.

How to adjust thumbnail size in Windows 7

Windows displays thumbnails of the opened windows in the taskbar if the mouse is hovering over it.
Unfortunately, the size is too small in case of high screen resolutions.A value in the registry regulates the size of the displayed thumbnails.
The size of the thumbnail preview can be changed as follows.
Enter ‘regedit’ in the input field of the start menu and press Enter.
Then confirm the request of the user account control with ‘Yes’ and navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband’ key.

Turn Off Windows Sounds : Windows Registry Tricks

Windows sounds or beeps are often annoying and can be turned off without turning off the other sounds. This can be achieved by a simple registry trick.
Open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound.
Click on Beep and set the value data to " No". 
Exit the Registry Editor.

If a UAC window occurs, the operating system blurs the rest of the screen making it impossible to read important information.
To start the registry editor, write 'regedit' in the search field. Right click on regedit.exe and click on 'Run As Administrator'.
Navigate the tree structure in the following order.'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.'
On the right hand side of the window,click on 'PromptOnSecureDesktop'. Double-click it and set the value
to 0. Confirm with OK and close the registry editor. The changes take place without rebooting the
system.

Turn Off Aero Snap
Aero Snap is a feature of Windows 7 mainly for better arrangement of the windows on the desktop. When you drag a window to the top of the screen, Aero Snap will automatically maximise it to full size. Similarly, when you drag a window to the left or right portion of the screen it will automatically arrange it to fit in half of the screen size.
You can turn off Aero Snap by the following Registry trick.
1. Open the registry editor by typing 'regedit' in the search box.
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
Scroll down to "WindowArrangementActive" in the right-hand pane, and double-click it to open it.
3. Change the number in the "Value data" field from 1 (Aero Snap is enabled) to 0.
4. Click OK.
This is how Aero Snap is disabled.


Set Time Delay To Aero Peek
Windows 7 has a feature of Aero Peek with which you can directly view the desktop even if you have a number of applications open and executing side by side.

Windows Registry Tweak : Prevent Changes To Start Menu

Windows Registry Trick : How to prevent changes to the start menu.
This tweak will stop any change done to the Start Menu.
1.Open the Registry Editor.
2.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer .
3. Add a Dword called NoChangeStartMenu.
4.Set it to Value 1.

Save the changes and Reboot the system for effects to take place. Note : I have tried it on Windows XP, I am not sure about other OS. As always, take a backup of the registry before messing up its values. :)

Windows 7 trick : Remove Thumbnail Preview Time Delay

If you are using Windows 7, you must be aware that you can preview a window by hovering the mouse pointer over its taskbar icon. Well, most of us think that it is a great feature to use. However, in case you have noticed, there is a time delay before which the thumbnail gets displayed. We can remove this time delay by doing this simple registry tweak.

This registry trick will help you to specify executable files to be executed by Winlogon. These files are executed by Windows at the time of Startup.

Windows Registry Trick : Customize the System Tray

This tweak using the windows registry will help you customize your system tray.
You can add your name or anything you like that consists of 8 characters or less. This string will replace the AM or PM next to the system time in the system tray.
1. Open RegEdit.
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International
3. Add two new String values, "s1159" and "s2359"
4. Right click the new value name and modify. Entered string should be less than 8 characters.
If you enter two different values when modifying, you can have the system tray display the two different values in the AM and PM.
Please Note that this trick may not work in some trial versions of an operating system.  If you are using a trial version, we recommend you not to do this trick as it may corrupt the system.

Speed up your Start Menu : Windows Registry Trick

Here is another windows registry trick ( or tweak) by which you can spped up your Start Menu.

When you click the Start menu and scroll over the various menu items such as Programs, Accessories etc , there is a time delay after which the contents of the menu are displayed. This time delay value is set to 400 by default .You can change it to 0, which means the contents will be displayed immediately. Or you can change it to any other value based on your level of comfort.
Here is how you can do it.
Open the windows Registry editor.
Go to the following Registry Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay

Setting for Value Data:0
Exit Registry and Reboot to the machine to implement the changes.

Windows Hack : How to Deactivate SHUTDOWN button.


Thus, hacking can sometimes help you get back at your obnoxious friend !.
Here is a trick you can play on your arrogant friend who thinks he is really smart. This hacking trick will deactivate the shutdown button.For this you will have to tweak some values in the Registry Editor.  Here is how you can do it.

==>Open a file add the following text and save it with the extension of .reg


REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoClose"="1"


==>Save the file and add the contents of the file to the registry by simply double clicking the file. The shutdown button will be deactivated. To enable shutdown set " NoClose"="0".

Windows tweaks --2 --Change Internet Explorer Background

This tweak can make the Internet Explorer more interesting. This trick is done by using the Windows Registry. You can change the background of internet explorer and windows explorer. You can add an background image of the toolbars of IE and windows explorer.
To do this open the windows registry editor and go to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Internet Explorer\Toolbar\.

Now in the right pane create a new String Value and name it BackBitmap and modify it's value to the path of the Bitmap you want to dress it up with by right clicking on it and choosing Modify.
To see the changes you need to reboot the machine.

Windows Xp Tweaks - 1 - change the internet explorer caption.

This Windows Registry tweak will help you in adding a caption of your choice to Internet Explorer.


The following are the steps to change the caption of internet explorer.
Open the registry editor and go to In the right pane create a new String Value named Window Title (Note the space between Window and Title). Right click on this newly created String Value and select Modify. Type in the new caption you want to be displayed( for example firefox :D ). Restart for the settings to take place.
